Help Is On The Way

I thought that line sounded strangely familiar. So, I did a quick Google search and found the following:

“I have seen our military at its finest, with the best equipment, the best training, and the best leadership. I’m proud of them. I have had the responsibility for their well-being. And I can promise them now, help is on the way. Soon, our men and women in uniform will once again have a commander in chief they can respect, one who understands their mission and restores their morale.”

As I recall, the above was an oft repeated quote during the 2000 election campaign. Who said it? If you guessed Dick Cheney, you’d be correct. He delivered it during the 2000 GOP convention and it was a welcome promise to a much maligned and beleaguered military. I guess Kerry and his merry band of plagiarists thought it was worth lifting and repeating. In light of his lack of respect for the military[see 1971 congressional hearings], it’s a wonder that he would have the courage to repeat it.
