Commentary Appropriate For Today’s Changing World

A Consistant Relationship

Some disjointed thoughts…

Snow…wind…cold…a Denver winter day. Sometimes that’s really nice though. All too often my mind tends to wander to the endless sun-drenched days of spring and summer that are interrupted only by fast moving thundershowers that bring a fresh feel to the air. It’s real easy for me to get into the mindset that sunshine and bright blue skys are necessary for me to really appreciate God’s handiwork. Then, a day like today comes along…. just a small dose of reality. I’m reminded that God is also in the clouds. He’s in the wind and the snow.

It seems to me, that my relationship with the Lord is sometimes like my enjoyment of endless summer days. It’s real easy to have that great relationship with Him when all is well. Praise and adoration flow easily from my lips. However, when those cold, snowy, windy times arrive, it’s quite difficult for me to praise Him. It’s in those times when I need to be closest to Him.

Father, thank you that you are Lord of all….the good and the bad. Thank you that you are the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Lord, thank you for your faithfulness; even when I’m unfaithful. Help me to seek after you and to praise you in the difficult times, as well as the good.

There’s a bit of the Screwtape Letters that talks about this. . .Screwtap calls it undulation, it’s the wave theory about our relationship with Christ.

I can totally relate to your blog.

In the Covenant Hymnal there used to be a hymn, “Thanks to God,” with a message similar to your blog.

You must know that you can not be filled with new blessings if you stay full all the time. When we get down and dry and empty, brace yourself for a great outpouring of a blessing.
