Foot In The Mouth

There are members of the U.S. Supreme Court that I very much disagree with. Clarence Thomas, for example, I think is an abomination when you contrast him to the leadership and principles of someone like Thurgood Marshall.
Any guesses as to the origin of that remark? Umm…Perhaps David Duke. Or, maybe the Grand Wizard of the KKK. Or, maybe some bigoted, uninformed redneck. If you had guessed any of the three afore mentioned people, you’d have been wrong. However, if you had read the January 26th on line edition of the Rocky Mountain News you would have discovered that those appalling remarks were made by none other than “centrist” Democratic Senator, Ken Salazar.
The good Senator is certainly free to disagree with the rulings and judicial philosophy of Justice Thomas. However, to denigrate himself by sinking to the level of cheap, petty name calling, is beyond the pale. Senator Salazar ran as a centrist when he campaigned for the senate seat given up by Ben Nighthorse Campbell. However, calling someone an abomination, can hardly qualify as centrist in nature.
Other than the interview by the Rocky, the MSM seems to be AWOL on this issue. Can you imagine the furor if Senator Wayne Allard, Colorado’s Republican senator, had made such a statement. He would have been flayed alive and run out of town on a rail.
Senator Salazar, I understand the nature of politics. Occasionally, you have to throw red meat to the party faithful. However, to defame a brilliant jurist with rabid, partisan name calling is unacceptable and is deserving of an apology on your part.
Hat Tip: Mount Virtus
UPDATE: Incidentally, Senator Salazar, when you decide to throw yourself under the bus, you might want to inform your office staff. They were clueless as regards your remarks.
