[...] 9/15/2006Response I normally don’t post my replies to commentors. However, in this case I think it’s time well spent. The following is my response to a comment made on this post. Thanks for your comment; but, I gotta tell ya brother, it’s not Mr Bush’s mess. Neither George Bush, nor the citizens of America asked for what happened to us on 9/11. Yes, I know, Sadaam Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11. I think we all agree on that fact. As a matter of fact, contrary to popular belief, GWB never claimed that he did. However, I think that we can also agree on the fact that Hussein was in league with the terrorist elements in the middle east…. witness his payments to the families of suicide bombers that attacked Israel. So, it’s certainly not a big leap in logic to assume that at some point in time he would have assisted terrorists in attacking interests of the US. Also, contrary to the ravings of the left, we did find WMD in Iraq after our invasion…literally hundreds of chemical laden artillery shells. Scoffers will say that they were left over from Iraq’s war with Iran. So what…they were still dangerous. Additionally, to ignore the acts of barbarism that he visited on his own people would have been inhumane, yea, even criminal. Also, for what it’s worth, he was in violation of multiple UN resolutions….resolutions that had to be inforced if they were to have any meaning at all . [...]

Read my take on the war on terrorist at my blog.

Now, on Mister Carter, since I'm from Georgia, I guess I should call him home.(Insert smile.) Not only should we give retired presidents a pension and a staff but we should also give them gag orders. Some people would be loyal to their party if they were doused with gasoline and their party members were throwing lighted matches at them. Of all people, and X president should know to not use bashing a sitting president, who is up to his shoulders in terrorist, to gain politically. We all know it is election time. We all know the stakes for political careerist. I just wish Mister Carter and others would take what legacy they have left and retire their mouth, now that their brain has seized motion.
Sorry to sound bitter. We need good leaders but I hate politics.

Manny,

Also, contrary to the ravings of the left, we did find WMD in Iraq after our invasion...literally hundreds of chemical laden artillery shells. Scoffers will say that they were left over from Iraq's war with Iran. So what...they were still dangerous. Additionally, to ignore the acts of barbarism that he visited on his own people would have been inhumane, yea, even criminal. Also, for what it's worth, he was in violation of multiple UN resolutions....resolutions that had to be inforced if they were to have any meaning at all .

So, my friend, the record very clearly indicates that it is not our President's mess. Iraq is but one battle that must be fought against those that would destroy you, me, and our loved ones. To ignore that fact, is to deny reality and place those that we love the most, in mortal danger.

I agree with you. President Carter, the only Born Again President we ever had, needs to focus his attention on all matters related to The Carter Center; human rights, encouraging peace treaties, overseeing elections, and organizing relief efforts for third world countries. He certainly doesn't have time to clean up Bush's mess.
