Change Of Tactics

For the most part, I’ve backed President Bush’s policy in Iraq. When others called for more troops and the President said that his generals all agreed that we didn’t need more boots on the ground, I backed him. However, I think it’s time that we take a long hard look at just how effective our current policy in Iraq is. I’m now, firmly of the opinion, that we either need to admit that our tactics are failing and get out (which I’m opposed to), or admit that they are failing, change tactics, and bring massive force to bear in order to prevent a long, slow slide into a protracted conflict that we neither want nor can afford in terms of lives lost and national treasure expended. This “hearts and minds stuff, while, at some point necessary, just ain’t cuttin’ it right now.
This thing either needs to be won or lost. The current situation just seems like losing in slow motion. Something dramatic needs to be done to change the trajectory of this war.
It might help if we got more brutal, quite frankly. We seem determined to win the “hearts and minds” of those whose hearts are black and whose minds are fixated on murder.
Ace has taken a longer, more in depth look at what’s going on and I, for one, agree with him.

Yeah, what’s the old saying… grab them by the ba**s and their hearts and minds will follow.
