Catch Up

Well, it’s Tuesday night and the ol’ world keeps on turnin’…..in spite of our best efforts to stop it in mid-spin. The political front continues to heat up as election day draws nearer, Reports have it that things are a tad bit closer than a week ago or so. Many of the pundits and pronosticators have the Republicans drawing closer to the Dems in several races. While Morris is sometimes wrong more than he is right, pollsters seem to support his conclusions with the new polls that are out. In many of the races, Republicans have pulled slightly ahead or are within the polls margin of error. Hmmm…guess we’ll see who’s right come November.
As stated before, I firmly believe that we belong in Iraq. I feel that we invaded for all the right reasons. However, Iraq has become become a festering wound in Mr. Bush’s presidency. Finally, the powers that be are starting to take a long hard look at how that conflict is being managed.
To quote General George Casey, America’s top commander in Iraq:
At a rare joint news conference with the American ambassador, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, Gen. George Casey, said additional U.S. troops could come from inside or outside Iraq to “improve basic services for the population of Baghdad.”
“Now, do we need more troops to do that? Maybe. And, as I’ve said all along, if we do, I will ask for the troops I need, both coalition and Iraqis,” Casey said. There are currently 144,000 U.S. forces in Iraq.
In closing, it looks like winter is beginning to make inroads here in Denver. We’ve had our first snowfall… meager though it was. Not even enough snow to scrape off the driveway. Heh! In December, I’ll be grateful for that. The garden is gone…for better or worse. It was pretty much a failure this year. Three or four puny lookin’ tomatoes and some growth challenged bell peppers. I believe I may have killed it with kindness. Perhaps a little benign neglect is in order next year. And the leaves. Oh brother, the leaves. We’ve raked the yard three times already and the trees are still full of leaves.
So, in spite of our best efforts, this ol’ world continues to spin. God is on His throne in heaven and continues to care for us, to love us, and to take an active role in our affairs.
Until next time…
