Hoof In Mouth Disease

I first heard mention of this on Bill Bennett’s Morning In America. Looks as if our friend John Kerry has shot himself in the foot again…..big time. In a speech at Pasadena City College, supporting Phil Angelides for governor of California, he had this to say about those in our military:
“You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”
I can hear the Republican strategists scribbling right now….”Kerry loathes those in the military…Kerry thinks those in the military are dim-witted”. I suspect that Kerry might as well throw any 2008 presidential aspirations out the window… right now. Incidentally, I suspect he’ll be about as welcome at democratic fund raisers as case of the shingles. No democratic candidate, not even the most anti-military campaigner on the circuit, will want to be seen in the same room with Kerry.
All kidding aside, Kerry’s statement is so typical of the establishment elite. They, and their loathing of those that protect our nation, are despicable. When backed into a corner and called on their verbal antics, they will lie and try to spin their way out of the hole that they have dug for themselves….all the while, conjuring up another pack of lies to cover their trail.
UPDATE 0935 RMT: I just spoke with Senator Kerry’s office and it looks as if the spinning and cover up has begun. The office staffer that I spoke with states that he wasn’t aware of the senator’s remarks. In that it has been almost 24 hours since the senator’s gaffe and considering the magnitude of his statement, I find it really had to believe that a staffer wouldn’t be aware of the remarks.
UPDATE 1000 RMT:This from Drudge:
FLASH: McCain Calls On Kerry To Apologize
Tue Oct 31 2006 11:43:14 ETSenator Kerry owes an apology to the many thousands of Americans serving in Iraq, who answered their country’s call because they are patriots and not because of any deficiencies in their education. Americans from all backgrounds, well off and less fortunate, with high school diplomas and graduate degrees, take seriously their duty to our country, and risk their lives today to defend the rest of us in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere.
They all deserve our respect and deepest gratitude for their service. The suggestion that only the least educated Americans would agree to serve in the military and fight in Iraq, is an insult to every soldier serving in combat, and should deeply offend any American with an ounce of appreciation for what they suffer and risk so that the rest of us can sleep more comfortably at night. Without them, we wouldn’t live in a country where people securely possess all their God-given rights, including the right to express insensitive, ill-considered and uninformed remarks.

UPDATE 1130 RMT:
Here is a press release from Kerry’s office:

Statement of John Kerry Responding to Republican Distortions, Pathetic Tony Snow Diversions and Distractions
Washington – Senator John Kerry issued the following statement in response to White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, assorted right wing nut-jobs, and right wing talk show hosts desperately distorting Kerry’s comments about President Bush to divert attention from their disastrous record:
“If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes serving in Iraq and not the president who got us stuck there, they’re crazy. This is the classic G.O.P. playbook. I’m sick and tired of these despicable Republican attacks that always seem to come from those who never can be found to serve in war, but love to attack those who did.
I’m not going to be lectured by a stuffed suit White House mouthpiece standing behind a podium, or doughy Rush Limbaugh, who no doubt today will take a break from belittling Michael J. Fox’s Parkinson’s disease to start lying about me just as they have lied about Iraq. It disgusts me that these Republican hacks, who have never worn the uniform of our country lie and distort so blatantly and carelessly about those who have.
The people who owe our troops an apology are George W. Bush and Dick Cheney who misled America into war and have given us a Katrina foreign policy that has betrayed our ideals, killed and maimed our soldiers, and widened the terrorist threat instead of defeating it. These Republicans are afraid to debate veterans who live and breathe the concerns of our troops, not the empty slogans of an Administration that sent our brave troops to war without body armor.
Bottom line, these Republicans want to debate straw men because they’re afraid to debate real men. And this time it won’t work because we’re going to stay in their face with the truth and deny them even a sliver of light for their distortions. No Democrat will be bullied by an administration that has a cut and run policy in Afghanistan and a stand still and lose strategy in Iraq.”
Absolutely incredible! His response has nothing to do with the subject at hand. Although, typical of the left…attack, using the politics of personal destruction to counter legitimate criticism. Folks, this is from the man that wants your permission to govern the country in 2008. However, on second thought, with statements like this and his original one, it’s hard to see how anyone could vote for him.
Well, Senator Kerry, this is one man who wore his country’s uniform with great pride; and you sir, are a liar! You are a disgrace to the uniform and an embarrassment to those of us that served our country honorably. Do us all a favor and crawl back under the rock, where you came from.
UPDATE 1245 RMT:
Kerry just held a news conference attempting to respond to criticisms of his earlier remarks. To make a long story short, rather than answer questions regarding his earlier remarks, he spent five minutes repeating his execrable press release. All I can say is that he is truly a contemptible individual who is a living, breathing disgrace to his nation and the people he represents.

Not surprising, Kerry has shown his contempt for our military men and women before.
No way can they spin this, he said it right out loud, and clear.

If this is what you’re referring to, it’s a far cry from asking us to leave Iraq:
BAGHDAD, Oct. 31 — Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki demanded the removal of American checkpoints from the streets of Baghdad on Tuesday, in what appeared to be his latest and boldest gambit in an increasingly tense struggle for more independence from his American protectors
That was from the NYT. In case you can’t figure it out, there’s a big difference between removing checkpoints and leaving the country. If this is not what you’re referring to, please supply the links to your statement
November 1, 2006 - 6:39 amCurious,
Nice try there. They did not call for our withdrawl from Baghdad or Iraq. They simply called for us to pull down our checkpoints in eastern and central Baghdad. That’s what happens when you listen to the nutty left… you don’t get the whole story… Let that be a lesson to ya folks…

November 1, 2006 - 6:51 amCS…No. Unfortunately, he’s not on the ballot. He’s truly the gift that keeps on giving. BTW, his remarks go way beyond partisan politics. He has a long history of insulting and degrading our service men and women. Regardless of the spin he tries to put on his remarks (what joke? where’s the context?)…words have meaning. Quite frankly, his comments are already having an effect on the current elections. He’s been dis-invited to one democratic candidate’s fund raiser. Additionally, he’s cancelled two other trips on his own.
November 1, 2006 - 9:39 amCS…Just food for thought….I suppose that you wouldn’t call the dems temper tantrum over the Mark Foley affair political grandstanding? That’s politics….both parties participate in that sort of thing. Neither side has the moral high ground on the subject of cheap partisan attacks. For what it’s worth, I believe that Foley is a good-for-nothing slime. His actions, whether legal or not, were reprehensible.
November 1, 2006 - 9:46 amKerry’s disdain for the military has been well documented since the ’70’s.
The NY Times decided that the Kerry kerfuffle belonged on page 18 of their paper and not mentioned until the 15th paragraph at that.
I guess all of us non-elites are too stupid to realize that it was just a joke gone awry.
November 1, 2006 - 10:46 amCurious,
Might I remind you that the ONLY reason Foley is on the ballot this year is because Democratic operatives broke the story one day after it was too late to change the ballot (dirty partisan trick indeed). As far as dangerous child loving tendencies, how about Gerry Studs? He went the extra mile and actually molested an underage page. The Democrats defended him.
As far as the house leadership covering for Foley; that’s BS and it’s been proven as BS. If anyone knew about this and didn’t do anything about it until it was politically expedient for them it’s the Democrats. It’s been proven that CREW — a Soros funded attack dog — had the IM’s and held on to them until they thought the issue could do the most damage to the Republicans. Don’t you dare get up on your moral high horse on this one because the Dems are into the Foley scandal up to their eyeballs.
What’s more Kerry DIDN’T botch a joke. He said what he said. He slandered our troops. It’s not the first time he’s done it, and it won’t be the last!
